Employment Policy

All applicants will be given equal consideration for all positions with the City, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, marital or veteran status, or the presence of a non-job-related medical condition or disability. However, Hazelwood residents will be given preference over nonresidents for positions when all qualifications of the applicants are equal. Applicants shall not be relatives of elected City officials.


 General Philosophy of City Employment

All employees work toward the same goal, to provide efficient and economical municipal services to the citizens of Hazelwood. This can be achieved by mutual employee cooperation. The City shall not discriminate against any employee because of his activities or membership in an employee union or employee advisory committee.


Days of Pay

Employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis, for the two (2) week period ending the previous Saturday, except as necessary to comply with applicable laws. Paydays are every other Friday.

The City Manager reports to the Mayor and an 8-member city council. Responsibilities include day-to-day operation and administration of city government, supervision of all city departments, personnel and contracts, financial and budgetary, economic development, and marketing and communications duties.

Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in public administration or a related field with a master's degree preferred and at least five (5) years of relevant experience. There is a residency requirement. Hazelwood is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Maintenance Worker

The City of Hazelwood is now accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker. This is a full-time position. Duties include street repair and maintenance, park maintenance, building maintenance, mowing, weed eating, and other municipal maintenance duties. Regular shift may include weekends. Valid driver's license and experience in similar work required. Starting salary: $35,612-$39,886 DOQ per year with the top range at $46,296. We offer an excellent benefit package. Pee Wee Tennis Instructor

The City of Hazelwood is now accepting applications for a part-time Pee Wee Tennis Instructor to teach children 5-7 years of age the basic skills of Tennis (indoors) 6-week program, 1-hour session every Wednesday, July 17-Aug. 21, 2013, 5:15-6:15 pm at Hazelwood Community Center gymnasium. $12.00 per class.
