The Legal Department provides legal services to the City. The department is organized into three units; Legal Services (which is headed by outside Counsel Kevin O'Keefe), Municipal Court and the Traffic Violations Bureau.

The Finance Department is a four-person department headed by Finance Director Lori Helle. The department is responsible for processing monthly financial statements and a Comprehensive Annual Report, establishing and implementing control procedures, investing idle funds, bi-weekly payrolls, monitoring payroll procedures, annual business licenses and coordinating annual budget preparation.

In addition, the Finance department provides pet tags and pet releases.

Police Department

The Hazelwood Police Department's primary functions are the protection of life and property, the preservation of peace and order, safe movement of traffic, provision for emergency service and the delivery of effective and efficient quality service. The nearly 70 person department is run by Police Chief Gregg Hall.

Fire Department

The Hazelwood Fire Department provides fire, medical, and other emergency services for the City of Hazelwood and surrounding area. We also feature an aggressive fire prevention and public safety education campaign year round. Our fire trucks and front line ambulance feature state-of-the-art technology and our personnel are continually improving their standards of training in fire suppression, technical rescue, and emergency medical standards. Equipped with the latest Advanced Life Support technology, paramedic/firefighters on the fire trucks are ready for any medical emergency. Our ambulance service is contracted with SSM DePaul Health Center for medical control and can transport patients to any local hospital.

Fire protection for the City of Hazelwood is jointly covered by the Hazelwood Fire Department along with the Robertson and Florissant Valley Fire Protection Districts. Though a larger area of the community is now under the umbrella of City services, the newest areas retain primary fire protection by those districts. The northwest area, including the Riverwood and surrounding area, is covered by the Florissant Valley F.P.D. and the Villa Maria, Brown Campus, and surrounding areas are covered by the Robertson F.P.D.
